Clients are often intimidated when speaking with attorneys and doctors. They are more willing to speak openly to a nurse often giving facts that can be very useful.
When it comes to hospitals, often times they will share "sensitive" information by simply asking. If you know the "language" you can usually find valuable information that you cannot find on any medical chart or hospital standard.
This entails identifying and reviewing relevant medical records, identifying relevant missing records, obtaining hospital policies and procedures, organizing and Bates-stamping medical records, preparing and updating chronological medical events, defining applicable standards of care and deviations from those standards, identifying injuries and associated damages, recommending potential defendants, identifying comparative/contributory negligence; screening for tampering with the medical records, etc.
This includes medical/legal/public literature searches concerning standards, guidelines, policies, and legal issues, as well as verification of literature advanced by the opposition. We often use the Centers for Disease Controls Prevention (CDC) and other nationally recognized organizations when putting cases together.
